Artificial intelligence is developing at extraordinary speed. Technology companies are making huge investments in AI, while some of the same executives behind this expansion are warning that increasingly powerful AI could pose serious risks to society – and even potentially to humanity itself.

That contradiction raises an important question: If AI is powerful enough to transform our economy and our lives, who should have a say in how it is developed and used?
